I'm not suggesting that she did or is doing anything of the kind. But there is clearly a conflict of interest when a judge is married to a federation president. Just as Canada sending a judge to the 2002 Olympics who had been involved in a long-term relationship with Richard Gaultier was a conflict of interest, or the case of Gwendal Peizerat's god-parent judging ice-dance where Gwendal competed.
I was the participant in a Landlord and Tenancy Tribunal proceeding where the adjudicator disqualified himself pursuant to conflict of interest guidelines because he was a member of my squash club and we hung out together even though it was 20 years prior to the hearing and we hadn't seen one another socially since shortly after Tink was born and we dropped our club membership.
When you, or a member of your immediately family, have a personal stake in the outcome, or a personal relationship with any of the participants, you have a conflict of interest. Those with such conflicts of interest should be disqualified from judging international events. Period. End of story. |

| Joannie Rochette article. It implies that she won't be on the GP circuit next year (and she doesn't have a new program yet). |

Actually, it comes out and says she won't be competing next fall but hasn't ruled out competing at nationals in January and that she will use the time to decide what she wants to do - she is going to go back to school in the fall. I hope she decides to move on - she will never be able to top the emotional skates at the Olympics and I think much of the motivation for her career has faded with her accomplishments in the past two seasons. |

| My heavens but the girl has been busy. Nice to know she's ready to go home and put her feet up. There was a time she seemed scared to do just that. |

| I wonder if part of her decision to do Nationals and Worlds will depend on how well the other Can ladies do in the GPs. If we come away with no medals then maybe she will be 'asked' to give it another year by Skate Canada. Cynthia had a good end of year last year but the question is will she be able to build on that or will it put more pressure on her especially if Joannie decides to not return. And while a few of our other ladies have the goods and scores to do well at worlds (top 15) they have not shown they can do it under pressure. |

It will be pretty difficult for Rochette to be pressured into skating by Skate Canada at this point after delivering the first world and olympic medals in ladies skating in more than twenty years. In addition, the circumstances of her skate in Vancouver make her almost as important to the sport off the ice as on the ice - people give her standing ovations wherever she goes when she walks in the room. If Rochette has decided not to skate come the fall it would be next to impossible to get into competition shape and have programs ready between the end of the grand prix season and the Canadian Nationals in January. |

According to FSU, Crone/Poirier are doing their FD to Eleanor Rigby, choreographed by Chris Dean.

Program decisions are usually made after Worlds and the skaters start preparing the new programs after the end of the Spring CSOI tour. Joannie could easily skip the GP season and still be ready in time for Canadians in January and Worlds in March. The problem with that strategy is that the program won't have the competition miles on it to iron out the kinks.
As for the news for Paul and Vanessa, I can hardly wait to see it this program. I hope they're at Thornhill this summer. |

C/P had a Beatles free dance the first year they competed with D/W. Perhaps D/W borrowed the Beatles theme from C/P. |

| Jeremy Abbott is using "Tangoflamenco" by Antonio Najarro for his SP, sans castanets. |

Uh, no---D/W did "Rigby" in the 2007-2008 season, when they finished 6th at 2008 Worlds. That was D/W's second appearance at Worlds (they were 7th in 2007).
In 2008, C/P skated at Junior Worlds, finishing second behind Samuelson / Bates. They didn't compete at Worlds vs. D/W until 2009. If that was the year they did a Beatles theme, then perhaps they got the idea (again) from D/W---not the other way around. |

And perhaps it has absolutely nothing to do with Davis & White at all. Perhaps Christopher Dean suggested the music, which is generally how he works.
Chuckie, the entire skating world does not revolve around American skaters. |

| Many ice dancers have used Beatles music. It just seemed odd to me that another ice dance couple picked the exact same Beatles tune used by D/W less than 3 years ago. |

Actually they competed together at a JGP in 05/06. |
