Let the silly season begin. This is the place to discuss coaching changings, partner swaps, and other skating stuff. This is NOT the place to discuss who is dating whom, or gossip of a personal nature unless it has been publically mentioned in the press and/or is related to their skating.

Let's start off by saying the Mao Asada is in the market for a new coach to come to Japan to work with her. Good luck on that Mao. Top level coaches don't usually relocate to a foreign country for one student.

Morosov is moving back to Moscow and Miki Ando (no surprise) is moving with him. Nobunari Oda is looking for a new coach (Yay!!) as a result.

According to Japanese news, she is looking for a coach located in Japan; not a foreigner, so being in Japan shouldn't be an issue.

I thought this was confirmed some time ago? DL is the best bet here though.

Until Skate Canada official announces Craig Buntin's retirement, there will be no official announcement but it is a done deal.

Daisuke will have a sugery to remove bolt from his knee in May.
He won't be able to be on the ice for a month.
He planned to have a surgery after World Championship 2011, but he was told it would be too late, so he decided to do in coming May.

I hope she is healthy enough to go the distance without long term pains.

Redford seems a good partner for her though! Sorry to see Buntin retire as I think he was a great pairspartner that never really reached the podium potential.

I'm sorry too, I feel the same way about this couple and I have a preference for Craig, I'm not sure why but I really like him on the ice.

So Ando is planning to continue? I may be in the minority, but I am very tired of seeing her on competitive ice.

I tend to agree and if you look at her scores she is still going backwards - last year at world's she had a similar skate to this season but scored 126 range and this year she scored 122 - had she scored higher she would have easily won the bronze medal over Lepisto.

im happy ando is staying because she is such a talent, and still only 22.... but im very disappointed that she is staying with morozov! when she 1st starting skating with him we saw an improvement, but since then she hasnt improved whatsoever, if anything her technical skills (her ace in the hole) have diminished! so with her staying with morozov, i doubt we will see much of an improvement, she will retire as a 1time world champion without an olympic medal, whereas with all her talent she could be a multiple world champion and an olympic medalist..... such a shame to see yet another talent go to waste... i do hope we see atleast her technical skills return in the next season!

I wish Ando would just go away already. I hope Suzuki starts to beat her, and some up and coming Junior kicks her off the World team and into retirement.

You seem happy that Oda and Morozov have parted. I feel the same. Unlike Mao, he'd be willing to train overseas I think, so would you have any suggestions on who should be his next coach?

As for Mao I wish Nagakubo (Akiko's coach) would be chosen, and Honda as a tech advisor. Nagakubo did manage to make Akiko achieve all the jumps (though they're not always stable or of high quality), and since Mao wants to get her 3-3 back again I can't think of anyone better in Japan. Honda was the tech advisor for Takahashi this season, and I believe it was mostly due to him that Takahashi got most of his jumps back in shape after his injury in such a short period.

But I have no idea, who the hell should be coaching Oda after the terrible way he ended up this season. I only know the very famous ones concerning coaches outside Japan, but most of them seem to have their hands full, I can't come up with a candidate for him. Can you?

Aw, you just simply don't like Ando! I think she skates real sloppy so I can understand how you feel, but I think she still has her moments more or less. Btw, you probably know this, but Akiko already beat Ando in the previous Japanese Nats!

Just to re-affirm for those who are new around here.......
Gossip must be skating related........personal lives are off limits unless it is on record somewhere.....in which case the source must be named and/or a link should be provided.

Thank-you.

Just curious... I thought it was two random scores that were thrown out. Is it really the high and the low?

Initially, there were 12 judges on ISU Championship judging panels, of which only 9 scores were used, so 3 judges scores were randomly discardard. It is to be noted that the 9 judges whose scored counted, are the same for all skaters. The random selection doesn't change with each skater.

In addition to the 3 scores which are randomly discarded. The top and bottom score for each skater are also discarded, although which judges' scores are tossed does vary from skater to skater, depending on the marks. This left 7 judges out of the original 12, whose scores counted.

With recent cost saving measures, the extra judges are no longer on the panels but the marks assigned are scrambled so that the numbers under Judge #1 on the protocol sheets are not necessarily from one judge. Judges have checked the numbers and confirmed this is the case. This again is to prevent federations from knowing how their judges score the skaters. And the high and low marks are still thrown out.
