Sebastyn announced her retirement before the Olympics, which was her last competition. Poykio has also retired. The Van Der Corkells could continue on for some time as neither has any competition at home.

I think Jenna could be passed but yes, sadly those countries don`t have a lot of competition. Not sure what they could do next. I think Vande rperrinmight be able to use his *** appeal to do some euro shows; McCorkell might be able to ride on his coat tails. And if the Russian ladies who have retired are sticking to Russia maybe she could do some shows. do they have like Disney on Ice in Europe. She would be a great snow white.

There is a European based tour which does ballet on ice called Imperial Ice Stars, which, like Disney, has multiple touring casts. They are currently performing a production of Cinderella on Ice and I can't wait for it to come to Toronto. This is not the type of show I would normally line up for but their Nutcracker on Ice was every bit as entertaining as the ballet, and a complete spectacular with orchestra, lavish costumes, and excellent choreography. The show received an enthusiastic standing ovation and deservedly so.

They performed at the Sony Centre (formerly the Hummingbird Centre/O'Keefe Centre), the former home of the National Ballet, and not performed in an arena so the size of the ice surface was that of the theatre stage, not an ice-rink. Evgeny Plaatov was listed as one of the choreographers. Sergei Sakhnovski was the only World medalist in the cast. My understanding is that the program has multiple casts/tours and that Ilia Klimkin skated in the European tour of the same program.

This type of show would be good for the Van der Corkells with the caveat that there is no room for anything bigger than a double jump, and the jumps are Kevin's strength, whereas someone like SS, being an ice-dancer, has excellent edge and basic skating skills and was perfect for this type of show on a small ice surgface.

There are currently more tours in Eurpe and Asia than in North America at the moment.

Very interesting. Sounds like the Asian and Euro skaters have more opportunities right now. That and the American ladies aren`t that able or interested it would appear with the exception of Cohen - Kwan has school and her ambassador role, Lipinski injuries, Hughes school, the other US ladies haven`t retired Meissner, Hughes, Czisny, Liang, Zhang or are very young. Canada hasn`t produced anyone that marketable since Liz Manley. Robinson has always been a rather unspectacular skater, Chouinard a bit of head case and it appears retired from show skating for the most part, Rochette probably has a year or two more of competitions. It is always nice to hear there is life after competive skating.

Josee Chouinard had a very long and successful run on Stars On Ice and in pro competitions in the 90's, but retired to become Head Competitive Coach at Toronto's prestigious Granite Club shortly before her twins were born. I hear nothing but good things about Josee and her program.

Until this season, Jennifer Robinson was touring with Stars on Ice in the US and Canada and was a very entertaining addition to the show, receiving much better reviews than her competitive record would have you believe.

Joannie Rochette skated both the US and Canadian versions of the tour, and I think she was also in the Japanese tour, or part of it too.

Setting aside the issue of funding which is neither here nor there, it would hardly seem like a wise move for Fume to continue. Her medal wins on the 2008 GP circuit are more a product of skating in weak fields than any resurgence on Fume's part. Even though she won the silver medal at Skate Canada in 2008, she was more than 25 points behind Joannie Rochette's winning score.

In fact, Fume set both her personal best SP score and LP score in 2004. Her overall personal best score was Worlds 2006 where she won the silver medal

In spite of winning two GP medals in 2008, Fume failed to make the GP final and was 9th overall at Worlds with a score that was 2 points less than her Skate Canada score.

Simply stated, regardless of your boundless enthusiasm, there is nothing in Fume's recent competitive history that would lead one to believe it's possible for her to make another comeback at this point.

Well, yes they do because it's the Federation's money that is spent sending her to international events and it is therefore their decision whether to name her to the team. As lambielfan correctly pointed out, she will need the support of the Japanese federation to obtain international assignments.

Fume was 33rd on the season's top score list, and not having competed at Worlds, would have to rely on her ISU ranking points to get her a GP assignment. She's currently ranked 25th.

Even the most loyal of fans could see where the federation would have a problem investing money in a skater who's best scores and placements are at least four years in the past, and who's current ISU ranking is based more on points carried forward from previous years, than anything that's she's accomplished recently.

She has sponsorship, so your point is moot. She will get assignments from the Japanese Federation. Obviously, I meant that anyone outside of national federations has no right to claim a skater can or cannot continue.

Sponsorship simply means she has money for training expenses. Sponsors do NOT provide funds for international competition nor do sponsor make international assignments. Sponsorship in no way guarantees that Fume will receive international assignments.

If one wants to be on the ice, skate and be involved in the skating world, they need not go to such extremes. Coaching, Ice Theater of New York type things put you on the ice as well as competition does.

So I conclude that she wants to do something more than just skate, like win Worlds or make the podium, and I suspect that is way past her. Therefore, its kind of sad to observe this.

If you want to argue Suguri shouldn't continue based on ability, that's fine. What it costs and who pays isn't really our business..(unless it's public money)....please leave the subject alone.

Thank-you.......

OK folks...here you go.

http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=ja&js=y&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.iza.ne.jp%2Fnews%2Fnewsarticle%2Fsports%2Fother%2F367949%2F

This is a link to a translated article. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all it says is Fumie needs more money to continue. (Perfectly understandable since figure skating is expensive.) There is no mention of bankruptcy or anyone is going back to work for her. If you know of other links.....by all means pass them along.

Thank-you.
