What a men's short! Almost perfect performances by the top two skaters and a bunch of guys finishing close enough to each other to produce a great battle for the bronze tonight. I'm going to see it live, yay!

And Nurmenkari at 10th, I hope you marked my words earlier. Very Happy

Yes good call on that one. It looks like he did it with his excellent consistent jumps as his PCS were lower than alot of guys he beat.

Yeah, he actually complained a bit about his PCS saying that apparently one has to skate in the latter half of the competitors to receive a PCS of over 30 points. I didn't see each and every skater of the competition so I can't say whether that is true or not but an interesting point anyway. Overall he was happy with his performance and his new PB. Let's hope he keeps up the good work today as well! Can't wait to get there!! Smile

Great to see Samuel Contesti doing so well - I was capitivated by his performance at the Karl Schäfer Cup back in October. Can't wait to see his fabulous free program again!

Good also to see Joubert and Verner in superb form. Love them both!

I knew it! Immediately after watching their CD it was clear to me that it would be a real struggle for them to continue the competition. Poor Maxim Sad and Oxana too.

I am really impressed with K/N and especially F/S's improvement. The speed, the flow, perfectly synchronized steps and spins, plus spectacular lifts from K/N as expected. Looks like K/N are in a great position to win this one because they are already a few points ahead of the rest and their FD is much stronger than F/S's.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why Cappellini/Lanotte are behind the 2 French teams. They skate much closer together, have speed, edges and great technical content IMO. I don't feel the 2 French teams would be ahead of C/L if Delobel/Schoenfelder skated. They are good, but IMO not as good as Cappellini/Lanotte. Could it be Politics to ensure 3 French spots next year? or is my bias for C/L clouding my judement? Confused

And I really do like Pechalat/Bourzat and Carron/Jost,

I'm watching the live coverage of Europeans on the Russian television website. Excellent coverage - no commentators at all during the programs, only after. The feed and the picture are very high quality.

Ponsero is leading the LP with 3 skaters remaining.

Unfortunately I cant see Ponsero coming from the 2nd last flight and passing Preaubert's point total from behind. Preaubert has been very solid in his LPs all season minus French Nationals. I guess it is possible but very unlikely. It looks like Preaubert will be going to Worlds along with Joubert.

I thought the same thing but it looks like Ponsero has done just that with a great free skate - he should be the 2nd French entry to worlds based on this performance.

At least in finnish they said it would show in abroad.

This is the message I got on my windows media player when I clicked the link you just posted. My Finnish is well, non-existent so I don't know what it says but I imagine it says something to the extent that this video is not available from your location - very annoying!! Anyways, thanks for trying.

Tekijanoikeudellisista sysita videon katsominen ei ole mahdollista Suomen ulkopuolella

On another subject - looks like Joubert is going to win with another so-so free skate. Did he use a new program? Will he be able to win worlds with a free skate of between 144 - 147? I bet Verner is not feeling so great especially when he sees that score. A clean free skate from him could have landed this title.

Ponsero with the best free skate of the competition and misses the podium by 6 hundredths of a point - that's heartbreaking.

Even with his SP meltdown he would have won silver but for a stupid mistake, stepping out of a simple double axel. Too bad he didnt have that performance at Skate Canada, he would have won easily with the way the competition there was skated and with his SP there.

Van Der Perren's PCS really agitate me. They are a disgrace to the sport, and a true embarassment. It was bad enough he was getting low 6s in PCS early last season, now they have crept up to mid and high 6s when the guy cant even freaking skate. What the heck is up with that!?!? He belongs nowhere near the podium at this event, a complete and utter sham.

Sorry.. How annoying really, because they claim so on their website.. Well, enough about that. I just know from experience that sometimes its irritating when you can't see championships all over the world.

I think we saw some great performances, but not like yesterday perhaps. I always like Joubert, he's got better expressing himself through the years (skating more like a sensitive man than excited young boy). I did like Lutai and Ponsero. Voronov is for me a bit too "grey", the body expressions are great and he is obviously skillful, but his face needs more expressions, I think. Didn't see Contesti skate though. Perhaps I'll watch a rerun somewhere..

About yesterday... I'm so happy for Savchenko&Szolkovy, I remember rooting for them when they were on their way to the top all the way years ago. Smile They got amazing charisma. I don't know so much about the technical side of skating, so I appreciate the artistic side more. I know the jumps, scores etc. after watching over ten years of ice skating, but when people talk about ankles etc. I'm not quite interested in.

S and S are improving nicely but I think they will ditch these programs for the Olympics. I am not sure especially the SP if they are Oly gold medal materials. M and T need to work on their long; K and S are developing nicely. It would have been nice to see if K and S could do individual triple loops or flips though since she was supposed to be a strong singles skater. She and Fumie used to duke it out I heard in Japan. The Ukranians are in tough - they have to beat the Russians (all three) plus three or four North Americans before they can tackle the Germans and Chinese.

I didn't like the SP either... I usually like new styles etc. but to me it wasn't their best program. It was sloppy and the music was awful. I mean it could have been good with the costumes etc. but the music was so poorly mixed and confusing that it really spoiled the routine. It wasn't enjoyable to me and that's what I want. To enjoy. I don't think I've ever seen such a poor program from them (I mean in an artistic way).

I do prefer the "new" russian skaters to the older ones in the pairs/ice dance. I never liked that much about Totmianina, Petrova, Obertas etc. I used to hardly watch Europeans pair's because of them, I always preferred canadian, french or chinese.

What a disappointing result for Ponsero! Sad Joubert: I wish he kept his old free program, this one is a total mess. Kevin Van Der Perren: I truly respect him for his courage and for giving his best in the FS despite his injury, but his PCS are outrageous. His program was all about jumps with ZERO transitions.

And back to the OD, commentators on the Russian Eurosport said that Linichuk was against D/S going to Euros, as she wanted Maxim to rest his knee (which, obviously, is still giving him troubles), but they insisted on going to defend their title. Russian Fed. must be really pissed at them right now: had Oksana/Maxim withdrawn a week earlier, they could have send to Euros Gorshkova/Butikov or Bobrova/Soloviev instead. I don't know how bad Maxim's knee is, but now it's not even clear if he manages to recover in time for Worlds: his injury seems to be pretty serious. Sad

What a night at Hartwall Areena yesterday! I was impressed by many, many skaters, especially Ponsero and Contesti of course, but also Préaubert, Othman, Borodulin, Brezina, Lutai and Fernandez for example. I've always liked Brian Joubert and I think he deserved to win though his FS was not quite as spectacular as his SP but it seemed to me that there was quite a bit of "Joubert inflation" in his PCS. He was not the star of the last flight, Contesti was. Who is this guy anyway and where has he been all these years??? Apparently he used to skate for France. The French must regret now to have let him go! Laughing

Can't wait till the ladies' event starts! I couldn't afford tickets to that but for obvious reasons it will be well covered by the national broadcasting company so I won't miss much watching it on TV only. Smile
