I made this category more generalized as I'm sure there will be others to talk about...

From the Skate Canada site on Anabelle Langlois:

http://www.skatecanada.ca/en/news_views/news/2007_2008/august_1.cfm

No word yet on how long she'll be out, but if she had surgery I have to assume we won't see her until nationals. Tough break. With Langlois out and Buntin on the mend let's hope D/D stay healthy!

Apparently Yuko Kawaguchi has a bad one too to her left hand, which she won't be about to use for a few months. Sad

Crying or Very sad

Selfishly, I hope she recovers fast enough to compete at Skate Canada as Langlois & Hay are my fave among the top three Canadian pairs.

Your thoughts...

It is intersting you have always been a huge Annabel Langlois fan. I must admit I was never a particularly big fan of her or her skating, and still am not. I do think she deserved her National title last year, and I certainly wish her the best in her recovery, but I dont even come close to sharing your enthusiasm for her as a skater. I find her skating and both her partnerships to be boring to be honest.

Laughing I'll even go out on a limb and say that I'm probably more enthused about her as a pairs skater than many Canadians are!! I don't really know what IT is about her that does it for me when I watch her. I remember first watching her when she was partnered up w/Patrice Archetto when they competed at Skate Canada 2001 and was quite impressed. In fact, I thought she brought more to the table than Jamie Sale did and I really figured Langlois & Archetto would carry the banner for the Maple Leaf in pairs and even exceed what Sale & Pelletier were able to accomplish. Needless to say, history took them a different route.

Back on topic, I do have high hopes for Langlois & Hay.

With these injuries, both of which require time to heal, time off ice, and rehabilitation, it seems unlikely that Kawaguchi/Smirnov and Langlois/Hay will be ready and able to compete at Skate Canada.

If that is the case, it seems both Kirkland/Radford and the Moscovitches will get a berth at SC, and there will be one other vacancy to be filled.

Well your hopes and expectations for Langlois and Archetto were certainly.....optimistic I would say but to each their own. Wink It was too bad they did not do more then they did, I certainly figured atleast they would win the Canadian title multiple times and make a world podium at some point. Langlois and Hay progressed alot last year, but were probably dissapointed to be the 3rd Canadian team at Worlds. It is too bad they are injured at a time they really need to continue their progress so hopefully it heals quickly.

Craig Buntin's recovery is going very well, although he won't be able to practice lifts or throws until September. This won't give them a lot of time to prepare their lifts and throws for Skate America so don't look increased difficulty in these elements during the GP season.

For now, the team is focusing on improving spins, death spirals and SBS skating with the intention of improving the GoE and PCS marks.

Well they have quite a bit of content already so they won't hurt too badly. They can get more points on the death spiral and twist as well as the lifts but their base level is pretty good so far. Working on skating as one and delivering more of a performance is not a bad way to spend their recovery time.

It's too bad they got SA. Do they seeds not have any say in where they go?

The seeds do have a say, but Duhamel/Buntin were the #6 seed, so they had to take whatever was left after the top 5 made their choices.

This is up a few posts, but I always preferred Langois/Archetto to Langois/Hay.

To me, Hay still looks a bit like a junior. I don't think they have much chemistry either.

That is how I feel too. Hay seems like a good competitor, but not really a strong or mature enough skater. I dont find much heat between them on the ice either, although that is true of even the top 2 teams in the world now.

Langlois/Archetto were screwed by the judges IMO at both the 2003 and 2004 Worlds and I always thought back then it was because they didnt win Canadians. That always seemed the most logical conclusion to why they were so overlooked by the judges at worlds. Then again Dube/Davison this year won bronze at Worlds after a shock loss at Canadians, but this is under the new system, who knows how things would be under the 6.0 system.

When I recall Langlois/Archetto's last year of competition, I seem to remember Annabelle falling numerous times on the throw jumps and on the sbs jumps as well. It was her inconsistency that caused them to lose the Canadian championship and drop in the World standings, IIRC.

L/A had been a couple off the ice, and they broke up personally in addition to their team breakup. Perhaps their personal problems interfered with their ability to skate together. Marcoux/Buntin's performance went downhill in their final season together for much the same reason.

Are Dubé and Davison a couple? They seem to have such a nice on ice chemistry. (Although that doesn't necessarily mean they are involved romantically, just wondering though...) In my opinion, they are one of the most artistic pairs out there right now. If they could just become a bit stronger technically, I could see them finishing on top.

Well, although I've never seen any written confirmation, if you go to their website at http://www.skatetoday.com/dubedavison/
you will see this picture: http://www.skatetoday.com/dubedavison/images/jessbryce_02.jpg

This is their official site...and that looks like an official kiss to me. But that picture has been there for at least a year, because I remember looking at their site last year.

Draw your own conclusions.

Dube/Davison were a couple off-ice at one time, but not for at least the past year. IMO, that is a good thing. They still have good chemistry together, but there is no danger of personal conflict scuttling the partnership.

I saw this posted on another board a little while ago. It’s an adorable interview D&D did with Shelagh Rogers on CBC radio in January of this year. They talk a bit about their relationship as a pair toward the end of the interview:

http://www.podcastdirectory.com/podshows/2288173

Back OT, although I’ve never been a big fan of Annabelle’s, I am sorry to hear about her injury and wish her a speedy recovery. Generally, I like most pair teams, so I’m not sure why I never warmed up to her. I always enjoyed watching Craig Buntin with his various partners, and fell in love with D&D at first sight, but Annabelle just never grabbed me. She and Patrice were a competent team, but for me always lacked that “it” factor. She and Cody seem to be heading down the same path unfortunately. Personally, I’d like to see him paired up with Liz Putnam.

Liz Putnam would need to be paired up with a huge and super strong guy. She is very big girl for a female pairs skater.

Liz is not that tall and she's very slender. Shawn Wirtz is short for a pairs skater.

I'd like to see Liz re-paired again. She seemed to be able to perform when it counts whereas Annabelle does not always..................

I fear it is getting too late, too close to 2010 for any new pairs to be ready for winter Olympics................... Sad
