2018 Pyeongchang KOREA WINTER OLYMPICS

I imagine Virtue and Moir will end their career on Olympic ice. Patrick Chan, too.

Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford have made it very clear that their competitive days are behind them now.

I think this whole Canadian "class of 2018" will get ready for Canadian SOI and whatever other opportunities com their way.

Now if only the US federation would only put a leash on H/D, I'd be satisfied. I agree with Andy--Hubbell is insufferable.

They used this lift in their 2013 program, so I am not sure why folks are all upset about it now.

I am just disgusted. Vincent Zhou had to start 3rd in the men's starting order, and now Bradie Tennell, #43 on the WR, has to start first. Larkyn Austman, who has the lowest rank at 177, gets to start 11th. I just hope it doesn't bother her. But it is sure to keep her PCS scores as low as possible. I would like to see her have a meteoric rise similar to Vincent's in the FS.

From what I've heard, Bobrova/Soloviev are retired and won't be at Worlds, and the same for V/M. So now there will be two medals up for grabs.

All of my Olympic wishes came true last night. I wanted three things:

1. The Team Gold;
2. A Pairs medal for Meg and Eric;
3. The Ice Dance Gold for Tessa and Scott.

I truly love P&C but they’ve skated the same FD for the past four seasons. They just change the music. They’re beautiful skaters but they haven’t shown any range in their choice of material. For those who say if not for the dress malfunction, they would have won, I disagree. The judges seem to have given them a chance with their PCS in the SD. Their SD was a hot mess. They got the technical done but the performance level was affected by her problems with the dress. That they were only a point and a half back after it was done, was a surprise.

Tessa and Scott have skated to Mahler, Prince, Sibelius, Fred Astair, Bizet, and Pink Floyd. Every season they’ve taken risks, tried new styles and conquered new challenges. They’ve changed the entire direction of the sport away from the turgid drama of the Russian style and back to the North American style which is dancing. Watching these two become not just the greatest dancers of their generation, but of all time, has been a great joy.

I am surprised you did not wish for anything with regards to the Ladies events :lol:

you make a valid point with regards to the versatility of Virtue/Moir vs Pap/Ciz. I think the biggest achievement of V/M was the continuous push of the technical boundaries while constantly changing style - and being excellent at all of them.

It is a lesson I wish more couples would follow, and that includes very much Pap/Ciz. I think they have the goods (technical and artistic) to challenge themselves and explore different styles, otherwise they risk to stagnate.

Do you know who will be part of the Canadian team at Worlds?

Interesting start order for the last flight of ladies, and especially interested to see how Medvedeva does skating last.

I saw the entire flight of the ladies SP!

This time marks the first time Bradie Tennell has fallen on a triple jump attempt. Unfortunately, this first time happens to be the Olympic SP. :(

Kaori Sakamoto just schooled the penultimate group: effortless jumps all in the second half, but still tasteful choreography, speed, well centered spins, everything. Well deserved score, to end up in the final group, and to be scored rightfully ahead of Kostner, who I thought the judges would hold up for a top 4 finish.

I thought Nagasu would ride the wave of her stellar team event free skate, but she reverted to her old self. She skated her SP right after Sakamoto and the difference couldn't be more striking: slower, more tentative, and NO sense of performance.

Karen Chen skated pretty much as I expected her to skate.

Medvedeva kicked off the final group with her usual solid, but overscored outing. Zagitova followed a couple skaters later with an equally solid and more difficult effort, so I agree w/her being ahead. If I were judging, I'dve had the Russians' scores tied w/Osmond, who was equally solid, but skated bigger and faster.

Your thoughts...

Medvedeva rarely gets nervous in competition, but then again she really hasn't been seriously challenged much over the last 2 seasons before this year's Europeans. I think Medvedeva will fare fine though.

Presuming that Zagitova throws it down, I'd be more worried for Osmond than Medvedeva. Osmond has never thrown down a clean 7-triple program internationally, and to have to do it after one of the gold medal favorites skate is a tall order to say the very least.

Overall I agree with the placements from the Ladies SP, although I would've had Zagitova closer to Medvedeva point wise, maybe right at 92. I enjoyed Evgenia's program much more, although the technical superiority of Zagitova was apparent. The latter continues to be greatly overscored in that second mark, however. Still, wonderful skates from both. I just hope Medvedeva can somehow pull it off and win that Olympic gold she has been working so hard for. Sakamoto was great, and I agree with Johnny more than Tara in regards to Miyahara…..she just doesn't draw me in. Would've had Kaori ahead of her.

And, eh Canada, why not add gold for the women's hockey team to the wish list? :D

I had conceded that Medved and Zagitova would be grossly overscored and they were. So unless one or both of them have uncharacteristic melt downs, they’ll be taking gold and silver.

Personally I don’t think any skater with weak laboured stroking, who doesn’t use the entire ice surface, deserves 9.54 in skating skills, even if her elements are clean and tidy. And jumps that go up and down in the same spot with no height, no ice coverage, and no running edge coming out of them, don’t deserve +2’s and 3’s for GOE just because they’re done in the back half of the program with a hand over the head.

I’d give both of them low 8’s for skating skills and only because their elements are clean and tidy. When you get down in your knees and accelerate effortlessly with a minimum of effort, and can skate a program which fills the ice from end to end, we can talk about 9’s.

So really only bronze is open, and Osmond has had problems laying down a clean long. I also figured I was already asking for a lot and doubted I’d get all three.

I completely agree with you on this. That is all.

At the risk of being asked to turn in my Canadian citizenship card, I can truthfully say I don’t give a rat’s patootie who wins the hockey gold. My least favourite sport of the games. I’d rather watch paint dry than hockey. I expect we will win the women’s tournament. Without the NHL players the men’s outcome is less certain but we seem to have a good shot at it.

Andy, I think that Nam Nguyen will replace Patrick Chan. In Pairs, Lubov and Dylan finished 4th but I’ve heard they’re not going, so I’m not sure. Ruest & Wolfe are next on the list. Soucisse & Firus, fresh off the bronze at 4CC should be the Dance replacements.

I’m Canadian and while I disagree with your thoughts on the sport of hockey, I respect the honesty haha! I’m just wondering now who will go to Milan for Worlds, from all nations. Any thoughts?
