Maleeva wrote:There were a few questionable scores last night (I’m looking at you-the judges who gave 9s to Jin for interpretation and Kolyada for Performance) but overall I cannot complain about the results. In particular so happy for Javi finally getting his coveted Olympic medal.

According to media reports, the chinese judge gave notably higher marks to Jin which has been noticed by the ISU and will be investigated after the Olympics.

http://sport.orf.at/pyeongchang2018/#/stories/2289050/ (sorry, it's in german)
Translated: The chinese judge Chen Weiguang has attracted attention at the Men's Event at the Olympic Winter games in Pyeongchang with ununsual marks. As part of the 9-member judge panel he evaluated his countrymen Jin Boyang on Saturday extremely well. He gave the fourth place finisher 10 times the highest grade of execution (plus 3). In the PCS he kept only barely under the highest possible mark of 10 and varied between 9.25 and 9.5 - the other judges remained clearly under that.
With that Chen's mark not only did not count - the highest and lowest marks of the nine judges are discarded - Chen also has to fear a possible ban of multiple years. The disciplinary comission of the ISU will probably deal with this case after the Olympics.
... the article closes with citing a statement of the ISU about the monitoring of the judges' work.

Looking at the protocol, that was probably judge 7, who also gave notably lower PCS to Uno and Fernandez than the other judges. Though with Kolyada, he was in the range.

Shouldn’t there be a costume malfunction penalty for a nip-slip for the French team. There was for sure something sticking out of her costume at the end.

Why why why why WHY didn't they stop, go to the referee and explain the problem, fix the fastening and start over??????

This is perfectly permissible under the rules, and nobody would have thought the worse of them.

I'll never understand it. That program must have been a nightmare for Gabrielle.

There's a deduction of one point for every ten seconds of interruption up to a -3.0. If the interruption of the program is going to be longer the referee can allow up to a 3 minute stop with a deduction of -5.0. These rules were changed after the debacle with Zhang/Zhang at the 2006 Olympics and the interruption was not penalized.

If they'd had stopped the program it probably would have lost them the Gold medal, though I'm troubled that a young woman had to continue to skate and expose herself to the world in order to try and win a Gold medal.

Costume deductions are for something falling on the ice, and excessive nudity of the costume. It would be up to the judging panel to vote for a costume deduction but according to the protocols none of the judges noticed or felt it warranted such a deduction.

There’s a 2 point deduction for stopping and starting. And you don’t “start over”. You start where you stopped.

I’m amazed that she wasn’t more distracted and managed to maintain the technical levels. There were enough other straps on the dress to keep the top on without exposing her until the dip at the end. CBC replayed it this morning and pixelated the “nip slip”, but it had to be distracting for both of them.

I am just disgusted. Vincent Zhou had to start 3rd in the men's starting order, and now Bradie Tennell, #43 on the WR, has to start first. Larkyn Austman, who has the lowest rank at 177, gets to start 11th. I just hope it doesn't bother her. But it is sure to keep her PCS scores as low as possible. I would like to see her have a meteoric rise similar to Vincent's in the FS.

I'm just disgusted with the ice dance results. My heart aches for Gabriella and Guillam. I am pleased for the Shibs. But as for V/M and H/D, I am sick of being forced to watch **** on ice in order to follow my favorite sport.

Gabby apparently has to be sewn into the costume every time she wears it, so more than likely this time the sewing stitches just didn't hold and when Guillaume grabbed her neck and she did that back bend at the beginning of the program it can apart.

I am almost happy with the ice dance results :-) I would have liked gold and silver to Virtue/Moir and Pap/Ciz in whatever order, depending on who skated best. About Virtue/Moir I loved the passion, the sensuality and the drama (the technique is a given of course). About Pap/Ciz I loved the extension, the elegance, the flow, the endless free legs. This time Virtue/Moir prevailed: what a farewell to skating, becoming the second couple in history with two gold medals, and the first with two gold and one silver. Pap/Ciz came out in second: well done to them, hopefully it will be a push to keep going until they will get their gold.

I am not a fan of the Shibs and I do not care about their skating. My respect for their work and technique, and congrats on their medal, but for me their dance does not do. I cannot stand HUb/Don: I do not think Ice Dance is about trying to convey a sexual message no matter what is being skated. I find Hubbel annoying at the very least, but I fully recognize it is a matter of personal taste, and that their technical value is undeniable.

I would have liked to see Cappellini/LaNotte somewhat higher in the ranking, but I think their time is past. It would be nice to see them bidding farewell to competitive skating with a medal at Worlds, but I do not think it is going to happen. I expect them to compete to ensure two (possibly three) spots for Italy, and that's it. Too bad seeing Weaver/Poje spiral down. They used to be among my fav skaters, and I am not sure if there is something at this point that can be done to reverse their fall. Hopefully they will show up at worlds with their guns firing.

I'd like to know the full story behind V/M's decision to put that objectionable jump back in the free dance. Were they told to remove it or not? And did V/M decide it wasn't "attractive" or not. If they are retiring, I say good. I can do without seeing Tessa's crotch in Scott's face. Now if only the US federation would only put a leash on H/D, I'd be satisfied. I agree with Andy--Hubbell is insufferable.

As long as they keep soaring in the rankings, I do not think it is going to happen

The powers that be could do something about sex-on-ice. Remember after Torvill and Dean they "banned" death on ice. And after the excesses of Russian ice dancers such as Bukin's father they reined in the bizarre antics that were in vogue at the time.

How did judge #4 give Weaver/Poje a level 3 on their Twizzles??? Lordy.

So happy for V&M but my heart breaks for Pap/Ciz. The Shibs delivered when it mattered most and the other two US teams made errors that are becoming all too frequent for them.

So, will V&M now skip worlds? Bob/Solo will now retire, no worlds for them, correct?
