makes me sad too. I far prefer it to some of the other skating boards which are not as nicely laid out and often overrun with superfans who can't discuss objectively.

Couple of questions for you folks...

Are there any other sites you visit besides FSU and Golden Skate?

I know they are much busier..... but are they also slowing down more in relative terms then they used to in the off season?

I access FSU and I do not see a slow down at all. Never been to Golden Skate

I can't figure out why this site has really seen a decrease in use over the last 1-2 years. :?: :(

I like this site too because there are (or were) a lot of very knowledgeable posters and we had some good discussion. Maybe they just got bored with figure skating?

This tine of year, we'd be talking about splits, non harmful gossip/facts, predictions etc. and I agree that FSU has a lot more uber fandom where you go all out for a particular skater regardless of performance (which is ok too but nice to have option of objectivity).

FSU is always busy, but goldenskate has slowed down quite a bit right now. Once the major summer comps and the JGP start up, all the boards will pick up, including this one.

There were two competitions last week, the Chesapeake Open (mostly ice dance) and the Broadmoor Open. I have been very busy all this week and haven't been able to post results on those two comps but will do so as soon as I can catch up.

Canadian summer comps are also starting to report their rosters. Will provide info as soon as I can.

Maybe it is a combination of factors? I can obviously talk only about myself, so here we go:

1) Figure skating has taken a direction I do not particularly enjoy, especially in the Ladies event. My interest in skating as a sport has quite decreased - the only event I truly enjoy watching is Pairs, bar a few random performances here and there. Long gone are the days when I loved to sit through a full free dance competition and enjoy the lower ranked skaters as much as the higher.

2) This board is the only board I read and I used to contribute to. I enjoy discussing skating as a sport: discussing taste and likes is great, but I have no interest for gushing or random gossip. This was the precise reason why I have been using only this forum and not others. That said, there was a point in which (I suspect) some of the 'usual' posters have been put off by a group of other posters that were busy only with nationalistic comments or with teenage tantrums. The discussions on tech analysis I was used to seemed to disappear, or been reduced to a minimum. The occasional discussion/disagreement among posters seemed to become less about skating and more about personal issues. For me this was a major put off.

3) This is the off season. The 'innocent gossip' which would normally occupy some of the trends of the board is now shared with twitter, facebook, instagram etc, which is a faster (albeit, in my opinion, more limited) way to spread the news.

Sorry....another question. Does your interest increase and decrease depending on how far away the Olympics are?

In my case... no. The Olympics are of course and extraordinary event - they add an extra spice to the season, but in my case Olympics are more about expectations about programs than interest in skating in itself.

I've always enjoyed this board and I wish there was more activity because than I would come here more often and post more. I find in more recent years that the level of discussion has waned and as fewer people post I find that I post less because there is less content to react to. Some of the regulars that were here when I started posting have left or become more infrequent with their visits and I've started to move to reading and posting on other boards - FSU & Golden Skate. I hope that going into the Olympic season that there will be more people active here and I'll continue to check-in and say hello.

I find this forum interesting and read it regularly during the season. I like reading observations of people who are really deep in this sport, love it, and can make more or less professional and/or emotional judgements.
I also read local articles, listen to our Russian commentators and then read this forum and compare the opinions. They often differ much but I tend to agree with the Russian professional commentators))).
I hope that the posters will be back here when the season starts and we'll enjoy the discussions again.

There are some big summer competitions coming up this month in the US and Canada, and the roster for the first JGP event in Australia will be posted sometime next week. I will post info as it comes in.
