Technical Controller: Cesaro ITA
Tech Specialist: Ponomarenko RUS
Asst Tech Specialist: Petetin FRA

The Tech Specialist makes the calls. If the assistant TS disagrees, then the TC resolves the dispute. If no dispute, the Tech Specialist call stands.

Thank you.
Strange that Sergey Ponomarenko is referred to as RUS. If I am not mistaken he is the US citizen.

Since he (Pom) competed for the Soviet Republic and not for the US, I think it makes more sense to refer to him as Russian. I guess that's the reason??

Blah, men's free was a bit of an anticlimax for these Euros. I sure wished Javier would have won his fifth title with a better performance and of course other guys could have made a little less mistakes. But Jorik! He was just fantastic! I wonder if there's any chance he could still learn that quad. It would make him a real contender. The same goes for Deniss obviously but he's still so young that I think he has a better shot. His cooperation with Stéphane Lambiel is one of the most interesting things going on in the men's field these days, if you ask me. Just keep it coming!

Per ISU Communication #2027 (you can find it on the ISU website) which lists all the Judges, Technical Controllers, Technical Specialists and Data/Replay Operators for Singles, Pairs and Ice Dance, Sergei Ponomarenko is identified as RUSSIAN.

He may live in the US and have US citizenship, but he is also a Russian citizen. Both countries recognize dual citizenship.

Just watched ice dance competition. Tarasova commenting was furious about the fact that Italians got level 4 for their faulty tweezles. I think she is right in a way, such an obvious mistake. Should have not been level 4 for this. Bob/Solo were very strong technically but...boring.
Feel sorry for Victoria and Nikita, lots of lamenting from Tarasova about this talented guy who spoiled his carrier by braking a successful promising ice dance pair.

I/K were not the future. You need to establish momentum and consistency and I/K didn't have that. Showing up for Olympics but nothing else that season was not good. They never were ready before November! S/K have also never been ready before November. But if they want to reunite the I/k partnership they have the power to do that.

sorry, huh?

I don't understand how C/L can get this call now after performing the same short dance all season. Did they change something?

They changed their straight line lift and after the straight line lift they performed another lift which is suppose to be choreographic highlight but they changed the program from what they had been skating earlier in the season so that Anna swings around Lucca a couple of times which makes it an extra element instead of choreography.

Ah, I see. Thanks for filling me in. I guess they will be changing it back! ;)

Tarasova also thought Stepanova/Bukin should have been placed above Cappellini/LaNotte because of the twizzles. I guess she didn't notice that S/B got L3 on the twizzles and L1 on the Diagonal step sequence.....
But then the Russians have been suspicious of CoP, since they haven't won an ice dance championship since it went into effect.

Russia has won several dance championships under COP. Russia won the 2013 European Championships in dance with Bob/Solo and 2008 and 2010 with Domnina/Shabalin. D&S also won worlds in 2009, all ISU championships under COP. There may be others too, these are just the ones that came to mind.

Of course Russia won 2005 worlds and Olympics 2006 but that Is like just do whatever you were doing in the last days of 6.0. It wasn't the developed COP that was forged by DW and VM fall of 2009 and into 2010. Russia hasn't won worlds since the maturation of COP dance.

She did not say that. She commented that Capellini/Lanotte "are not skating today,.. like on the sand". She mentioned during their program that they were slow and with such skating cannot be on top. It is not the twizzles at first place that must have put the Italians lower. T.Tarasova can notice much more in the couple's skating especially in dancing than all of us, so I believe her judgement. She praises pairs which are great no matter from what countries they are.
Also judges must estimate how the skaters performed at the competition - not how well they have been all season or how good they skated at practice.

The question is why the Italians got level 4 on twizzles with the rude mistake - there must be some explanation to this. Maybe according to the rules there must be 4 good rotations and the rest rotations do not count, or something like that.

That's what I was thinking Ellen - Cappelinni did complete all but the last revolution before dropping her leg - so L4 with -1 or -2 GOE. For me, it is hard to pick between Cappellini/Lanotte and Bobrova/Soloviev. Cappellini/Lanotte have the presentation, the character, and definitely hold my interest but they lack the fluidity, skating skills, or speed of the top teams and Bobrova/Soloviev are the opposite. I think they're very talented skaters but they don't seem to create programs that reflect their personalities, tell me something interesting, or present an interesting concept. I did enjoy their lifts though - hit some interesting and creative positions.

I'm also not exactly sure which way the judging should have been between C/L and B/S and I completely agree with tennisfan's view on the difference between the two couples. B/S did have one very interesting programme some years ago, though, the Man with Harmonica one. That makes me still expect something interesting from them every time they show up with new programmes but it's true that they've been rather on the conservative side recently. Still immensely talented and always lovely to watch, obviously :)

I was shocked that B&S were ahead of P&C. B&S have very basic choreography and she breaks badly at the waist. The CD portion of their SD really suffers for their lack of posture. Compared to the Italians and the French, B&S use a lot of upper body movement to disguise how little their feet are doing. What's worse, the lobes of their CD were shallow and they have a lot of distance between them.. B&S are not on the same level as C&L and P&C and it shows in everything they do.
