Broadmoor is going on right now. I believe Zawadski won the senior ladies short with a 58.98? I heard her combo was a 3t/3t
Joshua Farris won senior men short with 3lz/2t and a clean 3a. |

| Plus it should be noted that ladies SP scores should be a few points lower than previous years since the new rules were implemented. There is no spiral sequence in the SP, which makes for approximately a 2-4 point difference. |

| So Meghan is back doing single ladies again now too. Is this a back up in case the pairs thing with the new partner does not work out. I didn't think she was doing any singles while she was with Craig. |

Both Duhamel and Radford are competing singles in Thornhill.
I suspect since both skaters haven't competed their most difficult jumps in a while, they might be doing the singles to get back the competitive feel for their more difficult jumps like lutz, flip and loop.
When Duhamel was with Craig, she focused more on the pair stuff as she was clearly the superior jumper to Craig.
Radford's past 2 partners both were not up to snuff even for pairs in the jump department.
Both Duhamel and Radford have landed all the triples except the axel in their singles skates in the past. So the side by side jump potential is huge.

Actually they brought back those finals last year.
The Thornhill competition used to have those finals at all levels ( including the pre juvenile and juvenile levels ) before the new judging system took effect.
When the new judging system came in, the COS event dropped all finals immediately. They then brought it back in junior, novice and pre-novice last year.
The sad thing is that the other Canadian summer competitions are not following suit.
Also the juveniles and pre-juveniles who don't have a national competition, need a finals so they can get used to strength vs strength competition. They still don't have this in Thornhill.
The more experience our skaters get competing against quality fields ( emphasis on quality ) the better they will be prepared for international competition. |

| I agree our skaters really need the competition experience, especially the ladies since Canada has really cut back on sending them to international events. Look at what happened to Samson at last years worlds. It was not like she could not do the jumps that would have put her into the free skate or even into the top 15 but her lack of experience really showed. Without the pressure filled competitions they will never know how they will react when they are under such pressure. |

There is only ever one flight of Men, Pairs and Dance skaters so that the skaters are always facing ALL of the competitors at their level who are entered in the event. Only the Ladies compete in flights, and if all you need to win your flight is a 3S or a 3T, that's all they're going to have. The top 3 or 4 in every flight of Ladies needs to advance to a final - at every level at every competition, to ensure that the younger girls are exposed to the same LEVEL of competition as the Men, Pairs and Ice-Dancers have: That is the opportunity to compete against the best skaters in their Division.
When we had finals, and NAC's our girls gained ground on the Americans: Rochette, Phaneuf, Duhamel, Leung, and a few other girls who had all five triples and made the JGP Final, were products of that era. Now NAC's are a thing of the past, the girls have no Finals at their competitions, and once again our girls are mired in mediocrity.
The girls need more competition, not less. |

| Patrick Chan's SP. He lands the quad, falls on the 3A. Looks more mature than we've seen in the past, but that might be the music talking. |

Duhamel & Radford are planning on SBS 3Z and 3F as their jump content and nadioso nailed it: It's been years since either of them did these jumps in competition and they're both doing the SP at Thornhill to get a feel back for them.
I'm happy to see that Nobu is skating Men's and Christina Gao is skating in Junior Ladies.
Interesting to note that the much-travelled Terra Findlay is now skating for the Ukraine. |

Minto Summer Comps is on. Happy to see Rachel Kirkland thriving as a junior ice dancer. She is done growing. Now, she has long limbs and carves a beautiful line on the ice. She's found a partner in QC.
Really impressed by the depth of the field and technical prowess of Toronto teams, especially the ones from Scarborough. Canada should be fairing well in ice dancing for a while, assuming these kids will continue to progress. _________________ Emanuel rocks! |
