----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will have the start orders for LADIES and PAIRS tomorrow, but I probably won't get to see all of the ladies or any of the Pairs, as NJ is about to get socked by yet another nor'easter on Wednesday. Last week, I was without power again for 24 hours, but at least there wasn't any figure skating going on then. If I lose power again, that means no Men's SP for me on Thursday, as well. All I can do is check up on the scores from time to time on my cell phone. I bought a backup cell phone charger that will keep my cell phone powered up for the duration.

JUDGES for PAIRS SP: ITA CAN FRA USA GER AUT CHN AUS SUI

Both USA and CAN have only one team in the FS. In order to get TWO teams for Worlds 2019, their one team has to finish 10th or better. Right now, Moore-Towers / Marinaro are 10th and the Knierims are 11th. It's a cliffhanger, folks.

Ladies SP really showed us when a lady skates and a jumping bean has a grand mal seizure back to back, the judges have no alternative than to reward the lady.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

True. The showdown will be the FS, which is much more difficult for Carolina to complete without mistakes. Zagitova will no doubt come out on top, but Caro looks good for a silver medal.

The nailbiter is Miyahara vs. Osmond for bronze.

I do not think Kostner is thinking about challenging Zagitova. She will go out and skate as good as she can, with the tech content she has (six triples, possibly, including two 3S). IF she goes clean, or acceptably clean, she has a good chance to get silver.
I would be very (pleasantly) surprised if she will try to go out with a bang and go for a second 3F. But you never know, of course.

I am so happy and relieved that the nor'easter was easier on my section of NJ this time---only 8" of snow, little wind, and no power failure, unlike the previous two weeks. I actually got to watch all the skating!

Happy to hear you escaped the snowy ire this time, Chuckie!

So glad to see Nathan rebound after his horrible shorts at the Olympics. He is certainly in the driver's seat now...

Can someone explain to me though how in the world Kolyada gets the PCS that he does? Makes zero sense to me.

Comments so far: a big thank you to Savchenko & Massot for taking a victory lap at worlds with one of my all time favourite SP’s. That was so much fun. Aliona looks like a thousand pound weight has been lifted from her shoulders. Bruno is just living the Dream. I’m so happy for them. The real feel good story of this season.

Kind of takes the string away from losing two spots at Worlds. Moore-Towers is injured. I’m amazed she skated. I don’t expect much in the long from them and neither of the other two teams made the LP.

Beautiful skating from Caro. Sagitova, with her stiff knees, shallow edges, poor ice coverage, and overall junior quality, should not be pulling 9’s in any category for PCS, and I refuse to just let this pass. Congrats to Gabby Daleman for making the final flight.

Medals are up for grabs. Caro doesn’t have the LP technical content even if she executes it, that others have planned.

The Men: cautious from Nathan Chen but he got it done. Foolish mistake from Aliev repeating the 3T. And a totally remarkable skate from Keegan Messing to vault him into the final flight. Keegan has worked so hard since winning a spot on the Olympic team, adding transitions and raising levels on his spins and footwork. Just outstanding to see someone take an opportunity and run with it. Unlike Nam, who has known since Canadians he would be going to Worlds, but failed to make the freeskate in an event he finished in the top 5 in just a few short years and several coaches ago.

Moore-Towers injured? I'd say Alexa Scimeca, who barely got through their FS, is far more injured than Kirsten M-T.---M-T/M wound up 6th and secured their 2 spots.

Bruno said they were skating for the fans. This fan thanks you very much. What an amazing season and a great career. I’ve been thinking of all of the programs and all of the seasons. Just a highlight for us all.

I had hoped that Morgan/Cipres would get silver after the hosing they got in Moscow but Tarasova/Morosov didn’t mess up their LP this time.

Kristin Moore-Towers got it done. I’ve never been so happy to have been wrong. Talk about stepping up to the challenge. Whoever that second team is, owes a huge thank you to MT/M for getting them there!

Re: 2018 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 3/20-25 MILAN ITA

Chuck, my section of the Jersey Shore got slammed and I got a very needed day off work, so I got to watch most of the skating thusfar!

PAIRS:
Overall I have happy thoughts:
-Savchenko & Massot were even better here than they were in Pyeongchang! WOW!! What more is there to say, really??
-This'll hopefully be the last time we see that hot mess of an LP from Tarasova & Morozov. Kudos to them for trying to stretch artistically, but epic fail! They're great pairs skaters that deserve to have programs that can propel them to their potential.
-I've seen them skate this program a LOT better, but kudos to James & Cipres on their World bronze.
-Moore-Towers & Marinaro -- talk about seizing the opportunity to establish themselves as THE top Canadian team going through the next Olympiad!

I am sad that Marchei & Hotarek weren't able to take their stellar performances from Pyeongchang and deliver them at home and perhaps land on the podium.

I do hope all of these pairs continue onto next season!

MEN:
-Nathan Chen had, I'd say, about an 11-point advantage over Kolyada in starting base value, but Kolyada really rocked the positive Grades of Execution. The FS will be the test for Kolyada though -- he hasn't delivered a World medal-worthy FS all season.
-Keegan Messing killed it! I'll say it again ad nauseum -- THAT is a complete program that should score high in PCS and, to the judges' credit, it did! Interesting, thoughtful choreography that was well executed and PERFORMED, good sustained speed, very well centered and fast spins with very good extension and, as Uncle Dick and Peggy would say, STRETCH!. And oh yeah, 4toe-3toe!

I'll catch the ladies FS tonight!

Your thoughts...
Jonas
