Nathan will be a full time student at Yale? Makes me nervous for his training time and coaching situation.

Yale is in New Haven. Who is coaching there now?

Not sure who coaches in new haven.

Well the Shibs are taking off next season. I hope they do not retire.

The only high-end rink I can think of in Connecticut is Simsbury's International Skating Center, where Galina Zmievskaya (coach of Oksana Baiul) and Viktor Petrenko used to coach. But they moved on to the Ice House in Hackensack, New Jersey more than a decade ago.

Also, Simsbury is a good hour's drive from New Haven. Hardly the best arrangement for a world-class skater.

Skating Lesson is reporting that Hawayek and Baker are moving to Montreal to train with Dubreuil and Lauzon. GREAT move for them.

I hope the move doesn't include skating to programs that look anything like H/D or V/M. I've had enough of soft **** on ice.

Hubbel's style predates her move to Montreal, and I would not blame it on the coaches. I also would not put them on the same line as V/M. V/M were portraying a tango, a seduction dance by definition. Passion, eroticism, drama were necessary element of the dance. With H/D you have cheap seduction attitude no matter what or how she skates. Or at least, that's my feeling about the whole question.

Andy, I disagree about H/D. They skated to a Blues piece this year, also very seductive by definition.

Andy, I was uncomfortable watching their coaches when they themselves were still competing. Their interaction was too personal for my tastes. I will say, however, that I have never liked Hubbel, and V/M had jumped the shark before these coaches got their hands on them.

According to NBC Sports, Max Aaron has retired. Always enjoyed Max and he is such a nice young man. Best wishes to him.

Regarding the dancers whom some forum members believe are too sexual/intimate in their presentation, I wonder if you have seen these programmes live? As some of us who attend events regularly say, there is a big difference sometimes between watching on TV and in person. I've certainly never been embarrassed by Virtue and Moir. The worst I've watched in dance was back in the days of the upside down splits with the woman's crotch in the man's face. Thankfully the ISU finally put a stop to that move.

V/M had a crotch in the face move in their program this year which they removed and then put back. There were plenty of programs I objected to "back in the day". I didn't even like ice dancing for quite some time after Torvill and Dean left competitive skating. The Russians, for example (Bukin's father for one), went completely berserk for quite a while. Things got better after Lillihammer. As for the nature of the Latin dance, there were plenty of skaters this year who managed to convey the style without being overtly sexual. In the end, I have to say that my favorite performance at Worlds were the Italians skating to A Beautiful Life. They were great.

Yes max is retiring.

His parting gift to USA skating was helping the USA secure three spots at 2019 worlds after Vincent’s melt down in the free program.

The SD for 18-19 is the Tango. Blecch. After a year of Rumba, I was ready for something OTHER than another Latin dance. And maybe that's why the Shibs are taking a year off---tango is not the best brother-sister vehicle. At least 19-20 will be Broadway/show music.

I agree. The only way I can see a tango working for siblings is as a huge joke choreographed by Christopher Dean a la their "Cecilia" program.

This interview with Aliona Savchenko is all over the place but she sure does believe she can help the Knierims. I’m not so sure. To me they are just mediocre competitors who cannot perform at their best under pressure. Not sure you can teach that kind of mental toughness.

As for Aliona, well, I’m not sure what the future has in store for her. She seems to have a million things she still wants to do in skating LOL.

Skating under Delilah sure isn't good preparation for mental toughness. Anything has to be better than that. I'm just glad the Knierims are making a move and looking to improve.

The exodus to the Cricket Club continues!

Both Jason Brown and Booyang Jin moving to Toronto to train with Orser.

Super surprised about Brown, super interested in how Jin's raw talent will flourish with such keen direction.

It is entirely possible that he will have both 2019 world champions under his tutelage.

Sounds like a good move for Jason. Wonder if Brian can teach him a quad and a reliable triple Axel? Here is an article about the move:

Orser's had a WC candidate under his tutelage for years: Yuzuru Hanyu, who did win in 2017. Even if Jin improved 100% in terms of presentation, he would not begin to challenge Hanyu in that department. And technically, Jin has been far more erratic than Hanyu and just as prone to injury.

I hope this works for Jason Brown. He is such a beautiful skater if he can get that quad and 3A down pat................
