And I wonder why Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov did not receive assignments?

Ilinykh/Zhiganshin Must have dropped to the number six team in the eyes of the Russian federation. Interesting that the jr world champions Loboda and Drozd were selected above Ilinykh/Zhiganshin.

I didn't know they were planning on coming back, after their child has been born. Although I see several pics of them on the ice lately, I thought it was for shows, no for competitions.

Did Volosozhar and Trankov have a boy or a girl?

Patrick Chan has withdrawn from NHK Trophy. I hope he takes the Eric Radford FS off the shelf as, IMO, it's the more Olympic-worthy program.

Keegan Messing has taken his place!! :D I'm very glad he gets a chance to right some of the wrongs from Skate Canada.

No Chan or Fernandez at the GPF. Two new spots are now open for the men.

Chan is making a big mistake skating to two slow programs for the Olympics.

I'm not sure Chan will be at the Olympics.

What do you mean about the wrongs from SC?

Especially Hallelujah!---that is one of the most overused pieces of music around.

I think Jonas was referring to Keegan's FS, which went all awry and tumbled him way down in the rankings. Now Keegan will get the chance to do that FS over again, only much better this time, with a better overall result.

Castelli & Tran get their second Grand Prix invite in France next week. They were originally scheduled to compete at the Challenger Series event in Estonia.

Alexander Petrov is out of Skate America. I have a feeling he's injured as he fell several times in his free skate at Cup of China on jumps that he normally lands so easily.

Roman Sadovsky will replace Alexander Petrov at Skate America.

That makes sense. No visa needed and cheap transportation.

Han Yan has been added to the mens field at Skate America. I can see he and Kovtun playing possible spoilers to the top four favs at this event: Chen, Voronov, Rippon and Jin.

The Russian federation must be quite happy with themselves for giving Voronov two GP events and Kovtun only one. Their decision has Voronov in excellent position to make the GP final.

Heck, even a very on Samohin, Reynolds or Mura, have the potential to shake things up for the top four. This is a very deep men’s field that could provide 4 of the 6 GP finalists. Can’t wait to see what happens this weekend.

Kovtun withdrew from his first event (SC), that's why he has only one. Not sure about Samohin or Mura shaking things up---they were last in their first events (CoR and SC, respectively). And Reynolds was 8th at CoC.

Here are the GP total scores for the men at SA:

293.79 Chen
271.12 Voronov
264.48 Jin
261.99 Rippon
254.61 Yan
237.31 Hendrickx
226.50 Reynolds
186.66 Mura
183.79 Samohin

No scores for Miner, Kovtun, Sadovsky

Anna Pogorilaya has reported that she's withdrawn from Skate America as she's reinjured her back. Serafima Sakhanovich, who won the Challenger event in Poland, reportedly is taking Pogo's place. This'll be her Grand Prix debut.

Dabin Choi has been crossed off the roster. It's less than 5 days till the event starts, so I doubt there'll be a replacement, though, for what it's worth, Alexa Paganini, who now competes for SUI and has qualified for Pyeongchang, used to compete for the US and, I believe, trains in NY.

WHat a pity for Pogo. I wish her a speedy and complete recovery

Liam Firus has been added to the men's roster at Skate America.

Jason Brown is still 3rd in the Grand Prix standings and he can will qualify 6th for the Final as long as only one of Boyang Jin or Adam Rippon medal. Nathan Chen and Sergei Voronov need only finish 5th here to qualify.

Presuming Duhamel & Radford and Savchenko & Massot finish gold and silver, respectively, or vice versa, Yu & Zhang need to score 223.16 to beat James & Cipres for that 6th spot at the Final.
