I would not have put Yuzuru in the WOW factor on that short program but definitely has the potential. Not sure if you noticed but he leans on all of his jumps. I do like his prince program. He is always fun to watch no matter how he skates. I could watch him and Chan all day long.

Chan had a lean on his 4t, too. And his 3a is minuscule compared to Yuzu's. It's a lot easier to be clean when your layout is 4t+3t, 3a, 3z. Maybe Chan should try 4lo, 4s+3t, 3a while performing to the crowd.

Does anyone know what happened in the Pairs Short?

Not a fan of the tights costumes but that can't be the reason DR are in 3rd.

I'm so glad I watched the Jr. FD's. What an amazing group of young skaters! Essentially a USA/Russia showdown, both countries did themselves so proud. The skills, the lifts, and musicality of these teams is so wonderful to see. Congratulations to the Parsons for a well deserved win. It's really tough to succeed as a brother and sister team, which makes their win so much more difficult. The dance was beautiful.

Tarasova/Morozov were squeaky clean and dynamic, and Yu/Zhao were clean except for a slight glitch on the spin.
Duhamel/Radford: the 3a throw was UR and Megan fell on it; the sbs 3z wasn't clean.

To my taste the Duhamel's bodysuits costume was not "for her". Chuckeim, how do you like Meagan's "hooves"? Remember your last year comment - you wrote that Evgenia Medvedeva's tights over boots made it look as huge hooves? To me Meagan's black tights over white boots look more like the hooves :) :)

I HATE skaterhooves in ANY color!!

I have to say I am not a fan of Zagitova cum skatehooves: she skates all the time bent over at the waist - this is a major posture problem and should have impacted her PCS but didn't.

I thought Gubanova's FS was wonderful---too bad she blew the SP. She is a far better actress than Medvedeva and a better jumper than Radionova.

Also thought Kihira was a bit robbed on PCS as she is wonderfully expressive for one so young.

I agree that Chan had a lean on his quad however I disagree with your axel comment and think Chan's triple axel was executed better then Yuzu's. Skaters would put in the quad combo that is easiest for them, hence whether they do a 4s or 4t isn't relevant in my opinion. I also want to point out that because Yuzu's solo jump was an edge jump, it is easier to keep the second jump as an edge jump rather then switching to a toe jump. The only difference in technical on the jumps was the quad loop compare to a triple lutz. The technical mark should be different on the two jumps but the execution was also glaringly different. Chan's execution would be higher then Yuzu who almost did a face plant.

Anyone who thinks Chan's 3a was executed better than Yuzu's has to be dreaming. Yuzu's 3a has greater height and breadth and he rarely misses it. Chan's 3a gets the job done but is just average; he has about a 66% reliability record with it. Apparently the judges agree with me, because Yuzu got 11.78 for his 3a while Chan got only 10.64.

As for Yuzu's keeping to edge jumps in his SP is because pick jumps exacerbate his foot injury so he avoids them when he can. Obviously, a QUAD LOOP is worth much, much more than a 3z so Hanyu's 4Lo with -1.03 GOE was worth 10.97 points to 8.00 for Chan's 3z with +1.4. And Yuzu's 4s+3t earned 17.37 points to 15.60 for Chan's 4t+3t.

Chan HAS to be perfect to score anywhere near Yuzu since Yuzu has much higher technical content.
The problem is it is very hard for Chan to execute a perfect FS.

I'm confused, I thought you were judged on what you did "at the moment". "Rarely misses"........"66% reliability record"...... should be totally meaningless.

Pairs: I loved Evgenia TARASOVA / Vladimir MOROZOV's short program! That is the best I have ever seen them skate. My lord the speed and attack they skated with was a joy to watch. I do not like their free program music though, bad match for them. The pairs free program overall was a bit underwhelming. The podium finish order was a case of who made the fewest errors. I do continue to love Yu's back/posture. I think she and Zhang have much potential in the PCS department. I am starting to worry that Duhamel and Radford may be one of those teams in pairs skating history that peak at the wrong time before the Olympics. I hope I'm wrong but right now they seem a bit on the decline and other teams are improving.

Ladies: I coninue to adore this new Anna P who now skates with true artistry, with full facial expressions. I prever her PCS areas over those of Medved. So happy for Kaetyn skating a PB here in the short. That girl has some amazing speed and flow in and out of her jumps. Hoping she can finally skate a clean free program this season and challenge Medved.

Men: I keep thinking how lucky skating fans are right now to enjoy having three sublime skaters in this generation facing each other. Hanyu, Chan and Fernandez will go down in history as three of the all time best and we get to see them face each other for two more years. Hoping all three skate cleanly today and give the judges fits about who is best! Hoping Adam skates cleanly too today and pulls up to 4th place!

Dance: I would have had Madison and Zach in 4th place over BobSolo. My lord M&Z have deep edges and I think Zach in particular is uber talented. Props to the judges for giving the Shibs 2nd place over a G&G program with a few errors. The Shibs short dance music is not my fav but it is starting to grow on me. They certainly sell it well. V&M are just on fire and it will be interesting to see if that flame continues today in the free dance.

I'm going to do something unusual and agree with Chuckiem. Hanyu's 3A is better than Chan's. Hanyu has the more difficult one foot entry which helps with the GOE. Reputation on jumps does affect the score because every time Chan does an Axel jump everyone is holding there breath because he doesn't land it routinely like he does with his other jumps. Any thoughts of doubt in the judges mind will have the tendency to hold down the scores - it's just how the human mind works - the more we have to think about something the less we like it. Hanyu's 3A is silky smooth without a moment of doubt for him or anyone watching.
