After readying the protocols of the pairs event the discrepancies I am seeing is not in the GEO's, its in the PCS. From what I can make of it the Canadians were hit hard in this category at this competition compared to Skate America. I do know that this skate wasn't as good as their Skate America skate but I still want to know the reason for this discrepancy. Does anyone know?

The top three teams where given high PCS regardless of their error riddled Freeskate. I do not believe mistakes on the technical mark have any effect on the PCS marks. It appears the Canadians were singled out here as lessor quality skaters and not deserving of the marks they received at Skate America. IMO, not a good message to be sending.

Okay, I'm REELING over here in Virginia. JULIA. What happened?

Clearly she injured/reinjured the left leg, but did it hit her all at once? Is it a stress fracture?

Why did she get six deductions for falls when she only fell once?

And why, why, WHY did she not withdraw but tried to finish? Clearly she wasn't going to place, so why risk further injury???

According to the protocol, she got a 5 point deduction for "interruption in excess". Guess her leg injury flared up---she should have withdrawn from this event. It was sad to see a score that low for her. At least Courtney Hicks took advantage of the opportunity. She didn't get any hoopla (that was reserved for Elizabet and Zijun) but she got the job done. Elizabet skated a good SP but she rushed through her FS and it was frantic and sloppy. Zijun is a beautiful and charming girl, but she is so s-l-o-w and her music was soporific.

My area had a power failure from 9:45 am til 12 noon---was I mad!!! I missed the last flight of the men and most of the Pairs. It took a long time just catching up because I lost some data and had to backtrack--even though you save as you go along, you don't save after every stroke.

I did get to see the FD, and Evan was sooo mad at himself for messing up the twizzles again. I guess when you skate two events back to back with a long trip in between those things will happen. But two silvers should be enough for a trip to the final. I thought BobSol were way overscored anyway. Kaitlyn W looked disappointed with their FD score. They might need a gold to clinch a spot in the GPF, and that could be tough since they face the Shibs at CoC.

In Pairs, I figured Seguin/Bilodeau were in trouble after the SP, but I expected them to at least medal---never expected them to stay in 5th place. The funny thing is they still might make the final because so many of the top teams dropped out.

The men's event must have been a real stinker except for Javi and Shoma. Congrats to Bychenko for making the podium.

I guess I can watch what I missed on IceNetwork when I get the chance.

I loved Anna Pogo's short program tango. The best program I have ever seen her skate artistically.

They fell out of the last warm-up group. That's what happened to their PCS. The Canadians haven't established themselves as a first tier team yet so if they're not in the last warm-up group, they're not going to get the PCS. But they also skated very poor compared to last week. There were a lot of small technical errors.

Just watched the pairs and dance free programs. Julianne and Charlie were just flat. I can see why the judges gave them low PCS here. The Germans were deserving winners here. Could not believe they attempted a quad throw as the last element of their program! The only thing I questioned with the results were the levels (for lifts) given to The #2 Russian team here, Astakhova and Rogonov. They got two level 4s and one 3, for lifts that did not cover much ice and his feet were scratchy on the ice while lifting her. He did not seem secure on his feet.

Dance results were interesting with three top teams facing each other. BobSolo were technically almost perfect. My only complaints were they got tired for the last minute of the program and I did not like the combination of skating to Chopin then an abrubt change to Vivaldi's four seasons. Very odd pairing-leaving me feeling what is their program about?

Chock and Bates were a notch below how they skated at Skate Canada. Bates' major error on the twizzles did them in, as well as the jet lag from skating the week before in north america.

I liked Weaver and Poje's new free program. Their new lifts are amazing. What a strange feeling it must be for them knowing they finished 5th at Worlds, after being the 2 time GP Finals Champions-which is tough enough for an athlete-then knowing the iconic champions of your home country are returning to competition. They have much to overcome-will be fascinating to see how they embrace this challenge.

Seguin & Bilodeau were definitely off here, but at the same time I'm still scratching my head on the PCS of the two Russian teams. Zabijako & Enbert looked slow to me and I've always thought Ashtakova & Rogonov are just mismatched and lack any notion of ease of movement. Not a particularly great pairs event here all around.

Men's result was just right. Nice to see Max Aaron come back w/a good free skate.

Pogorilaya just lay it down like a World bronze medallist. Well deserved win. And kudos to Courtney Hicks, who laid down her strongest free in about two seasons.

Your thoughts...
